My name is Keith LaBrecque.
Growing up, I played football and baseball, and then spent my high school years playing baseball and as a member of the gymnastics team. I was always a fit person without ever having to “work at it.” It was part of who I was and the things I did.
I continued with my sports career through college, and I was lucky enough to play for one of the top NCAA Div II baseball programs in the country, at The University of Tampa. This is where I became as cardiovascularly fit as I had ever been. We were at one time mistaken for a track team after all… (long story!).
After college, I got into lifting weights. I was able to obtain a considerable amount of muscle mass in a relatively short amount of time. I spent six days a week at the gym. I had a solid routine down to keep me fit.
Life happened and certain things kept me from going to the gym. Unfortunately my appetite didn’t go away with my workouts. I ate like I was still lifting heavy, and before long, I was walking around at 5’7” and 215 pounds. I wasn’t a pretty sight.
At this point, I met a wonderful woman, who is now my wife. She turned me on to Weight Watchers. When I started that program, I was down to a little less than 200 pounds. While on that program I lost almost 40 pounds. I went from pushing out of size 36” pants to comfortably wearing size 32” pants.
For a period of time after losing the weight, I would fluctuate between getting heavier and lighter. Any time I neared the 200 pound mark is when I would panic and start some type of weight loss attempt.
In August of 2009, my wife had posted some pictures of our beach vacation on Facebook. Me walking down the beach with no shirt on… THAT was my turning point! Something had to be done. I thought, if I keep up like this, I won’t be able to play with my kids, and won’t be around for them when they are grown.
When I started round 1 of P90x lean, I was 195 pounds, forcing my way into my pants. 8 weeks later, I was down 15 pounds and a pants size. When all was said and done with my lean program, I lost 19 pounds and reshaped my body. I was strong. I was happy! Since then, I have toyed with the classic version, gone heavy, and grew some muscle back. I am up a few pounds from the lean, but happy about the gain.
Today is Oct. 30th, and I just started a journey with P90x+. I am very excited, as I have a large group of people that have decided to join in with me, whether with P90x classic, lean, +, or insanity! They are my support system, and I hope that I can be theirs as well!
I look forward to my continued journey as a coach, and the people I will meet and work with to improve health and fitness.
